In this unit, students will be preparing a response to literature. In other words, students will be practicing how to respond to constructed response questions.

Wednesday- Among the Hidden Anticipation Guide, Word in Context Thursday- Read Chapters 1-4 of Among the Hidden; Tone/ Mood Friday- Read Chapters 5-7 of Among the Hidden; The Art of Code-Switching This week students will continue drafting their mystery stories. As students finish developing their stories, they will go through a task-based revision process as they edit their writing.

Wednesday: Revision Stations Thursday: Choiceboard-Review for District Touchstones; District Touchstones Friday: Internal/External Forces in the movie, Up. This week students will be creating a mystery short story.

Brainstorm the introduction of our short story. Read the exposition of the story "The Lift." Draft our introduction. Wednesday: Brainstorm the body paragraph of our short story. Read the rising action events and the climax of the story "The Lift." Draft the body paragraphs of our short story. Thursday: Brainstorm the conclusion of our short story. Read the falling action and the resolution of the story "The Lift." Draft our conclusion paragraph. Friday: Participate in Peer Editing Interviews This week, students will be studying the story, "The Treasure of Lemon Brown."

Monday-Students will unpack the second Embedded Writing Assessment. Tuesday-Students will determine the conflict and follow the character's journey to a solution to the conflict. Finally students will identify the author's overall message that is revealed to readers (theme). Wednesday-Students will identify the rising action events that lead to the climax. Thursday- Students will also identify character traits and determine which event causes the character to change. Friday-Students will identify the falling action and resolution of the story. During the weekend, students should review and prepare for our quiz on the short story, Thank you, Ma'am. |
